To my surprise I now have a nice bright spot in the yard BUT what happens next? was this the one and only bloom and why did they bloom the first year ?

I was thinking one could get several generations going and the self seeding would take over however ,I am researching and will plant a variety that will return yearly and would appreciate any suggestions.
