For whatever reason, maybe because it is along a road, deer don't browse as much there as they do in the forest so stuff actually grows! For now, the only things blooming are plants that were there already: various species of milkweed and lots of Partridge Pea (larval host for Cloudless giant sulpher, Orange sulphur and Sleepy orange butterflies), but I saw New England Asters I know weren't there last year : - ) Fingers crossed that deer don't nip them in the buds. This homely-looking pollinator was enjoying some of the Milkweed. |
