Tree- if the coldest wind comes from the north then a row of trees, not 90 degrees to the wind, but at an angle, can help deflect the wind around the house. You would want an evergreen for this. Pic 1.
Otherwise whatever tree you like the looks of and will grow in a lawn- Perhaps
Acer = Maple (any of several)
Tillia = Linden, Basswood or Lime (all these common names are used for several species)
or perhaps some fruit trees? Pic 2.

Replacement shrubs: Your house is sort of blank, perhaps something taller against the tallest parts of the walls? Then lower under the windows?



Have you thought about doing anything with the slopes?
Do visitors park their cars along the street?
