In the meantime, I discovered a few things. First, I don't have just one empress tree...I have two little saplings and one that is as tall as an oak. It's next to some tree of heavens that are in the woods, and I thought it was one of those, but yesterday I glanced up and saw purple. Broke out the binoculars and saw the flowers. The tree is freakin' TALL.

Second, there's a succulent growing in the garden pond landscaping. I found a plant tag on the ground, not near it, but when I looked up the name on the plant tag, it sure does look like the same leaves. The plant tag says Sedum spectabile "Autumn Joy".

Third, the berry bushes are starting to bloom! Yay!
