pmmGarak wrote: So finally the gray Nils are flowering (pic1) - still: I don't get the hype! They're rather small, I had some that didn't open right, and I still think it's some kind of mauve. I'm far more impressed with the other Freebie I got from Emma: A very dark, yet subtle speckled purpurea (pic 2) I actually love it when something looks rather usual to the casual eye, but offers something for those who care to look closely. Slightly Off-Topic: my other beloved vines: Unfortunately, the two single flowers my Passiflora Incarnata kept in the extreme drought this year opened exactly the same day (pic 3). It's her third year and I finally dared to plant her out in the garden, close to the house. She should do well if the winter keeps to the Zone 7 limit. My Cobaea didn't flower that much this year, maybe it's not worth to carry them through the winter. Still, I love it when the first cold nights turn her leaves dark red (pic 4) Totally offtopic: my first Bulb from seed flowered only 2 years after starting it! It's Tigridia Vanhouttei. The flower is tiny, but bears wonderful detail (pic5) I don't think they'll conquer mainstream gardening, but I love them just as I do love their huge colorful sisters Tigridia Pavonia. A little nitpicking on a post further up: I think that yellowish Ipomoea up there is I. HederiFOLIA Lutea - I. Hederacea is a bluish one of sectio Pharbitis, so it's closely related to I. Nil |
