Another warm day and almost all of the snow is gone (except the big piles in parking lots). I planted the 'gift' bulbs I received last Thursday in pots on the patio and heaped them with the slush and snow I scooped off the concrete to give them a slow drink to get started. After it melted, the soil in the pots had compacted a bit, so today I topped them off with pine bark mulch. I also checked on the pots of bulbs I've been forcing since last fall and discovered they were sprouting, so I pulled them up and placed them in the urns on the patio, giving them a topdressing of mulch as well. The bulbs in my border and annual beds are starting to show, so it won't be long now! Spring is around the corner.
