Looking through pictures online I saw something remarkably similar that was listed as a brown recluse. I know they are not common in California, and I'd been lead to believe "brown recluses" found in California were always a result of misidentification. So I'm sending these to the web. P.S. Sorry the images aren't more clear I didn't take them expect to count the number of eyes. Edit: I have also read now that reculse do not have spines or banding on the legs.
