Hawks are my favorites too.

When I've heard the first time their voice, I was sure it belongs to some little baby bird. It sound to pitiful and innocent.;))
Much later I discovered the noise belong to these beautiful predators. What is interesting, I often hear them during the night. I assumed they must be another kind of hawk. - I don't think they can be active day and night, and indeed, I was told there exist night hawks too [Southern California].
Actually you have many kind of them, but I don't know enought to distinct them. But I found nice link
