In pic #1 you can't tell from the picture but his abdomen is curled up and over his head, if laid flat, it would be longer than the length of his wings and his hind legs reach back farther than his wings There would be no way to see him on the ground or in the brush. Sorry for the second pic being darker, it was taken a little later and it was in the shade.
