There is a variety of pineapple that has pink-ish leaves like that Paula. But can't really be sure until it puts up a flower. I don't think it will make edible fruit even if it IS a pineapple. It's strictly an ornamental variety.

I just plant the tops of pineapples I buy at the grocery store. They make an edible fruit after about 2 years with pretty much no care. Love those broms!

Getting dark, and starting to rain (again!) as I toured the garden this evening. A few nice things coming along -
-soft red Canna, my favorite after the dwarf yellow and white ones
- new red Pentas planted only 2 weeks ago are twice the size already
- a laugh for you all, my DH complained that the sun was coming in his office window late in the afternoon. I stuck a cutting of the Shooting Star clerodendron in the ground outside that window in May . . . well, he asked for it!! KayJones, this is the plant I sent you a start of! (bad picture, the motion sensor light on the house blazed on just as I was taking the pic)
- coming around the corner of the house, the most wonderful perfume from the Butterfly Hedychium
- milkweed usually lasts about a week before the Monarch caterpillars munch them. Most of mine are yellow, but here's a red one.
