I have had this plant for a number of years and every spring I look for an ID. 4 years ago, I decided to remove it from it's pot and put it in the ground. It has increased in number considerably. I am in (new) Zone 9a and it gets no winter protection. It is planted on the southwest side of a live oak, so it gets full sun all afternoon. The only results thus far are "maybe a Guzmania from Ecuador"?

The leaves are "soft" and floppy with smooth edges, approx 18 to 24 inches in length and approx 1 to 1.5 inches wide, dark green tops with grayish undersides. There are 5 or more leaves per plant. The bloom spike tops out at about 24 inches. The blooms are tubular and yellow with a greenish cast to them.

I would greatly appreciate any help in naming this bromeliad.
