They're very robust plants that aren't fussy like most orchids. Take normal fert and only need watering once a week or so. Also they like some morning sun. I'm experimenting this year with terrestrial orchids in my shady border area, and I have three colors of Spathoglottis, Phaius (aka Nun's Orchids) in 3 different forms, and a yellow Bletilla coming also. It's been my ambition to make something bloom in the beautiful shifting shade under my huge oak tree, and so between the begonias with their gorgeous leaf markings, and the orchids which should put on a show for most of the warm season, I think it's going to look pretty out there this year. I had to laugh about your comment that my yard always is neat and tidy. My new garden helper and I have now sent about 3 tons of prunings and weeds to be composted. Thank goodness the County picks up garden waste for us each week! |
