wren107 wrote: I have started feeding mealworms again as the abnormal freezes we had this last winter killed most of the birds and plants around my area. I do not get to go out and watch much as I am a caregiver for my DM but It has been great. I expected the Tufted Titmouse( 2 families now raises broods, the fly in different directions so there are 2). At least one pair each of Carolina Wrens, Carolina Chickadee and Cardinals, What I did not expect was a female Orchard Oriole, A Great Crested Flycatcher, a Hairy Woodpecker(who collects more worms at one time the others take all day), some Yellow Rump Warblers(who also feed from the seed and suet feeds) and a Hermit Thrush( who feed worms on the ground and stayed for a few months. I have not see Mockingbirds at the feeder, have only seen one in my yard. Can not wait to see who else shows up. These pictures where taken back when I had time to sit out there and take pictures. Oh the wren would fly over and tell me when the bowl was empty (I was sitting only 4 feet from the bowl) once it landed on the upper edge of my laptop and one time I felt something on my pant leg, looked down and it was a wren climbing my leg. Wish I could set out there again. |
