I have a young spindly chinese pistache tree in my yard. I understand it needs specific pruning to produce the shape that is desirable. It seems that the top must be pruned to achieve this, but all my previous experience with trees tells me not to prune the top of a tree or else the growth is stunted. I have read the pruning discussions on other sites, but I do not understand the terminology.
Can someone help me understand? Or confirm the othe sites? I have had the tree about a year. The photos below show my tree, approx 6 feet tall with gaps in the leafage. It was like that when I bought it. I certainly hope the gaps will not prove to be a distraction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
