I know the round ones kill mosquito larvae. I don't know if that's what the bits do or if they just shoo the skeeters away. I had 2 bags of cedar mulch on hand so I covered up some mud with it.
These pictures should illustrate why I always ask for mulch when we have RUs. (I also use it in my flower beds but I have a lot of naked ground to cover.)
