BST caterpillars usually take off from the plant they've been feeding on when they're ready to pupate--they can travel quite a ways before they choose a spot.

I generally keep both my caterpillars and the chyrsalises out of direct sunlight.

When they're getting ready to pupate, they don't hang in Js like Monarchs. They build kind of a sling.
1) A BST cat in pre-pupation position
2) shortly after pupation
