I think it wants to be in the ground, it was a bit sparse this year, but has totally proven to me it is hardy here For you it would surely have to come in in the winter, but it would I think love your summer heat.
It is a hybrid of C. diurnum and C. nocturnum, both woody shrubs native to the Caribbean. It is sold by Monrovia. They say in zone 8 and warmer it is deciduous shrub to 6 feet, zone 7 it is a perennial getting to 3-5 feet each year regrowing from underground.
It really does bloom spring until frost. Hard to capture the color with camera. I will probably make a bunch of cuttings in the spring, for trades. I will plant my new little one in the ground.
