As a rule--camellias hate cold winds and need to be planted in a sheltered, somewhat shady spot. Some bloom in the spring, some bloom in the winter. Mine blooms around March. It faces North and gets almost NO sun. It is by my front steps with two big shrubs on either side of it. Quite protected. The cultivar is "Bob Hope" and it has bloomed, profusely, since 18 years ago.
