I meant to dig it out (God help me!) and pot it up in a huge pot--as I am going to
totally dismantle this disintegrating bed...some day...Too late now--it is in full leaf...

The Lilac is OLD--and not blooming much any more. I have been pruning out the older stems--
so, maybe, that is why. The new shoots have to fill in. The 6' fence does not help......
