Insect and Spider Identification: CLOSED: Hornets/Yellowjackets, 0 by neefman

Those nests are oftentimes in shutters or hanging on my garage door. This nest was much bigger, sturdier, had an actual inside to it, and the yellowjackets themselves seem a bit smaller and more "bee" like. It also was more menacing in its overall feel.

What do I have here? And what are the other more common yellowjackets that I described?
