This little silklie almost went to the compost pile,I had a broody that hatched out two and she was sitting on four more eggs and finally yesterday she gave up.I thought well she knows what she is doing they must be dead because I had candled.So I started throwing them in the poop bucket and noticed that two of them had shrink wraped ,the shell was almost gone and all that was left was the white dryed stuff.So I looked at them and there was no movement so I tossed them and the others.I started to the compost pile and thought I could here peeping but I have heard so much of it latley with all the babies in the house and the coop thought I was hearing things.But I kept hearing it so I checked the eggs again and one was peeping,it had poop all over it and the shell was really cracked bad from being tossed in there,but I just could not throw a live baby away,SOOOO I ran in the house and got out my 20.00 little yellow bator that not good for anything but keeping them warm and put it in there.I waited for a few hours and it still could not get out of that shrink wrap thing so I took it out and peeled away most of the shell and started to pull back some of the membrane and it started to bleed so back in the bator it went and I waited for a couple more hours and tried again and still there was a little blood so back in it went,had the hummidity way up there but that membrane was like cement.I could see its little beak moving so I knew it was still alive,so after prayer meeting at my church(I said a little prayer to myself for it)I took it out again and was able to pull all that membrane off it and no blood that time,so it was free,it stayed in the bator all night to dry off and I made it a box with heat lamp this morning.As soon as I know it will eat and drink it will go out in the coop under the mama at night with it siblings,probably in a couple days.I am thankful for a little yellow bator it has helped at least 4 chicks with porblem hatch,but it has always been the last day or two before they would have hatched on there own.Will keep you updated on the little thing,he or she is all black.
