They like being pot-bound and hate to be moved. Up until this spring, my big clump was in the same pot for 8 years. I would add some soil on top of the roots each spring, and a sprinkle of time release fert, then just water maybe once a week if there was no rain. The old pot finally broke so I had to re-pot this clump. When we turned it out, you could hardly see any soil for all the roots in that pot!

Whenever I have taken divisions or tried to get them going in the garden, they have died off. They also really like to dry out between waterings.

Here's a shot of the big clump in its pot. Looks like I have two varieties in there now - how'd that happen??
