Burn, yes, it would have been a lifer, but I think I saw 2 more that day so might be OK. In fairness to my friend, he was looking at the pic on the tiny screen on my camera while he was driving. Still, he looked at it for about 2 seconds and boldly pronounced Swainsons even as I was going "really?" ---Oh and jealous of the redpolls! They're great!

Here's another hawk that my friend said was a Swainson's b/c of its blond head and b/c it was sitting in a field and another one just like it was sitting in the field across the street. He says they do this. He actually saw this one through binocs and not just on the screen of my camera, so this is the real test!
