This winter has been the worst so far but when the pond surface started to freeze, we placed a vertical sump pump in that forces water above the surface and have no problems. The fish go to the bottom and in a state of dormancy until I see them out and swimming around, I don't feed them. I use the fall and winter feed when I do this time of year.
