Jeanette: I would treat the ninebark like the JM. I would wait for deep winter like january to prune. I would love some hardwood cuttings if you have any to spare.

Evelyn it sounds like the modem has bit the dust. One work around is to install amodem if you have an extra slot to plug one into and bypass the onboard one. in the event they put in a modem card in and not an on the mother-board modem then it should be as easy as unplug the card replace it with a new one and install the software. now with this said hp has its own way of doing things and everything in their computers are programed in under hp speak not simple computer speak.
I know a little about computers I used to repair them and do some basic lessons in south florida. unfortunately most of the info I learned has been lost to medications and short term memory erase. I know it sounds funny but I can easily pull out of my brain my plant knowledge but if I need to do anything with the comuter I pick up the phone. I call it "letting the baker bake" while I grow plants. we all have our special ability, its when we try to overlap abilities with little prepwork we end up shooting ourselves in the foot...well at least I do.

The witches broom I will have to check on as its put in with the rest of the gange. i have an area where i have planted all my little experiments. that way I can watch them and not pull my hair out looking for it.

Here is a pic of the overgrown pampas grass that I cut the roots and planted them in my new 6" x 4" pots. this pic shows how the plugs were stacked ontop of a plug tray that failed to grow. the roots grew through the tiny drain holes and took over the whole cell.

I am guessing we will need to discuss hardwood cuttings in the next eveloution of the thread. I am still learning this my self so please bear with me. most of it will be based on what I have read and what I have found works for me.
