One of the things I like best about some hydrangeas is the evolving color of the blooms as they age.
This one develops a reddish margin around each petal as it ages.
But I've never noticed this phenomenon before:
it looks like the reddish discoloration is a response to minor injury to the petal.
In this case, the injury is a nibble from an insect.
I thought it was interesting.
