the night blooming cereus was an american standard house plant ... through out Appalachia and down into the south.. It's easy to root and transport cuttings by waggon as migration moved south and west... there would be parties celebrating.. awaiting the night opening.. as the flowers were seeming to open.. I got my first one as a family legacy from my Aunt Velma.. and we grew them up together ... but both of us lost ours with in a year of each other ... this one is the one Logees has ..which I got as a replacment... but when she saw it bloom.. she said it was different from ours... so I set about to get out old family NBC... I got one from the hills outside Nashville... from peekaboo.. surely the one... and one from the gulf coast..from Kathy... suposedly from a New Orleans plant... that grew to be 6' across.. and one from the west coast... these have yet to bloom out for me.. and unfortunately Velma died before she could tell me if these are like our lost family heirloom
