Hi, All. While I've been using Dave's Garden for years for plant info, and have even posted many pictures from my own gardens, I have never participated in the forums. Decided this morning that I'd go ahead an get involved with you all, if you think you can stand me! I participated for years in another garden forum, but it seems to be breathing it's last.

I've been gardening here in Central Alabama about 24 years ago, though didn't call myself a gardener for the first 5 or so years. I had so many different gardens ... full sun, part sun, dappled shade, deep shade. I was on a forested mountain ridge and it seemed I had the best of everything. DH and I got tired of dealing with all the leaves, etc. We built a new home in a new subdivision and moved in fall of 2007. This is my 3rd gardening season here and I'm still working on improving the soil. Not only was the top soil the builder brought in the worst you ever saw, it was placed on top of rocky hard subsoil. It was very tricky to create well-drained beds, but I'm beginning to make friends with it all.

Daylilies are at the top of my favorite bloomers, and I'm obscessed about deadheading every morning so that when I take pictures there are no spent blooms. The neighbors here in my new neighborhood have gotten used to seeing me every morning running around with a bucket in one hand and my camera in the other. They just shake their heads, say "Bless her heart!" and go on.

Sorry for the long post. Did I mention that I'm a little "wordy"? The first daylily I every purchased and planted was the Red Volunteer. It is still my favorite and I'll bet I've divided it at least a dozen times, and photographed it hundreds!
