Our little Blue Cochin hen PJ, who lost one eye to fowl pox a couple of years ago when she was young, hatched out some babies. She had gotten broody so we stuck 3 eggs under her. Once hatched Friday, one either this morning or last night and the other was a dud.
We also had two babies that hatched out Thursday and Friday to two cochin/silkie mix hens, but we had to take them away because they were so interested in the eggs they had left that they were neglecting the babies. I'm thinking it is because they are so young, not quite 7 months old.
Anyway, we slipped the two orphaned babies in with PJ this morning and she doesn't mind at all.
She hatched out the white one and the brown faced black one. We have no clue how we got a white chick as we have no white hens except an ameraucana that is white and buff colored, but it wasn't her egg. The brown and black is probably an australorp buff mix, the two orphan babies are mixes, one most likely ameraucana/buff and not sure about the other.
