It is all about the correct balance of plants, fish, frogs etc. I do not fertilize my water lilies..I let the fish take care of that. I give my fish very supplimental feedings..I let them eat bugs etc found in the pond. I do add clarifier when I remember but do not add anything more to my pond. The more natural the better in my opinion.
