I would definitely recommend that combination though. The "flying saucers" produce a really long vine and nonstop flowering. The only drawback is that they are late bloomers. I think a lot of the large mg's are that way... they don't bloom until late July or early August but then... WOW! Unfortunately they have larger seeds that take a long time to dry on the vine so I don't have extra seeds to share. The blooms were well worth the wait... about 4-5 inches across and ranging from white to blue with many combinations of white streaked with blue. I also grew scarlet runner beans with this combo which had a nice contrast with the red flowers. I will probably choose to add a red mg this year. The good news is that I have lots of the mammoth russian sunflower seeds that I would be happy to send to anyone for SASBE. Mine grew 8-10 feet tall and had stalks that were at least an inch in diameter. Some of them were closer to 2 inches in diameter. They were really sturdy and I didn't stake them. I am including a picture of a small portion of the morning glory/sunflower wall. Angela |
