Last Friday was a sad day. We had to cut down and grind out our 20+ year old pongam tree (pongamia pinnata). Due to the proximity to both my driveway and my neighbors, as well as roots starting to invade her garage foundation, we had to cut it down. The tree was simply too large to fit in the space in which it was planted (small, zero-lot-line property). Thus, I had the freedom to plant a new tree. I have been hooked on the yellow tabebuias, and their wonderful, colorful display in some of the medians and roadways and properties in the area sold me on them. Though they're finishing up their show this year, I scooped one up for a dirt-cheap price, and planted it yesterday. It looks a little whimpy, but for the price, I can wait until it fills out. I will make sure to strap it, since I know how these things are during hurricanes! Enjoy.
