I should know which it is ... we have lots of both down this way too but I'd have to google for pic's to figure out which is which, LOL. I love the yellow belly on that Fly Catcher ... I've never seen one, he/she is sure a pretty one! I was out planting up some flower beds this afternoon and wish I'd had my camera handy ... a gorgeous hawk flew through the shrubbery and grabbed a bird, probably another dove. It wasn't the Sharp Shinned Hawk that I got some good shots of a few weeks ago but looked to be a Red-tailed Hawk, very fast and beautiful. There's part of an old steel pole/pipe out by the fence in the backyard from one of those huge dish satellites my husband had years ago. The pipe fills with water when it rains or when the irrigation system is on and the backyard birds like to perch and drink there. I've seen all kinds of birds drinking from it but today the Red-bellied Woodpecker decided to stop in for a drink. I didn't get a shot of him with his head down inside the pipe, thought I did but it's gone. Anyway, here he is hanging on the side after his drink: |
