When I see people doing that, I sing out in a cheerful but firm voice " could you curb the dog, please?" Or with children, "hi, would you please take the dog out of the yard?" They look startled, but the do it, and it doesn't tend to recur.

I still don't get it though. Would you think it was OK to let your animal poop or trample this?
