Even though the sun wasn't shining, heavy overcast, I put the Tamron 2x teleconverter on the 40D, behind my Canon 70-300 IS lens, and took the lens all the way out to 300mm. This cardinal was at a distance of 26-28 yards away - the camera was hand held, no tripod - the lens' IS worked nicely.

I had to use manual focus. The 40D's setting were 1/100 shutter speed, f/ 5.6 and ISO 1600. The original was underexposed, so I used Elements 7 to tweak it up to this. It hasn't been cropped, same size as came out of the camera. I'm still figuring out all the ways to adjust shutter speed, f stop, and ISO. It is confusing to me. But, I think I need to increase shutter speed and take the ISO up.

And, I'm still looking for a sunny day.
