They usually went dormant during the winter for my mom, and she would put them in the basement then in a cool place where they didn't get a lot of light, some but not as much as her catus that she kept in the basement got. And she would bring then back out in the spring again and they would just take off again.

I made the mistake of giving them some plant food, and they have not gone dorment in a few years now.......LOL
