Couple of days ago I got around to cleaning up a marshy area outback of my place
in Renton, WA -- faraway from the Cascade Mtns but in the foothills. On a tarp was this
critter, pretty big as you can tell, the size of a quarter, fearlessly prodding around
and when approached,turned and faced me and reared its tail in a scorpion fashion with 2 white spots of
fluid oozing. The dang thing wanted to start a war with my boot so I scooped it up
in a jar and placed it on my concrete patio and took some pics and tried to identify
this thing. The closest I have found is a grylloblattodea, an ancient bug living high in
the mountains and loving ice-- that's why I wrote about where I live cuz it doesn't
fit, unless of course we will now have Ice Age 4.
I am not great at bug identifying except I know I would not want to hold this guy in my hand
because it grabbed a pencil tip with its mandible and I was lifting it up and around not
letting go.
Anyone with a verification or if its another, it was fun mistaking it for that critter.
I did let it go near where I found it.
