The water level went from 4"-5" to about a foot deep, but the lotus adjusted to the depth after I weighed down the seed. The Special Kitty does a great job of separating the horse poop and compost from the water so the water stays clear. I also checked on the seedling that I put in the pond at the same time and it is about the same size.
