Every time I dig up a bed of tulips in the summer, after they've treated me to their blooms, I think, "These bulbs look healthy - I should have left them (and save myself some expense next fall)." I've left the bulbs on a few occasions, and for the most part, I've been sorely disappointed. Their numbers always seem to dwindle, and they never seem to be as large and colorful as they were the first season. In the fall of 2007, I planted 750 multi-stem flowering Darwin tulips "Orange Bouquet" in a new bed in my border. Last spring, they treated me to a wonderful view. (to be continued) |
