Heard this guy calling in the distance while I was doing some work this afternoon in my Mom's backyard (in Deer Park, TX - southeast Houston suburb). I thought at first that it was just a mockingbird, but then the bird flew a little closer and it sounded a bit different than a mockingbird. I started to look around for it, and when I spotted it on the power lines it looked like a mockingbird at first. But then it turned to the side and I thought I could see a black stripe across it's face --- and that's when I thought "OH WOW! Maybe it's a Loggerhead Shrike!" Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me, but my mom has a point and shoot I used to get some (crummy) shots. They are pretty bad, but I wanted to get some more opinions to see if ya'll think it is a mockingbird or a shrike. I am really hoping shrike because that would be a new bird for me!
