The screening is designed to keep most bugs (except no-seeums), frogs, snakes, debri, etc. out of the pool. They still get in though, but not as many as if it was un-screened. However, it does cut the sun exposure down about 25% and it's a perfect area for a container garden. It really is kind of mystifying to me why we're only one part of the Country that has adopted Pool cages. Even the East Coast of Florida doesn't usually have them??? I think some people in Arizona have them, but have you ever seen a Pool cage in California?
