Bird Watching: My new friend, 0 by konkreteblond

He just appeared about 10 days ago in my tree. I think he chose my yard because I've got several feeders. (My sister says it looks like a little "Stonehenge" lol) I learned that he's a Fischer's Lovebird so I went to the store and bought some bird food sticks and hung one in the tree for him. He ate it then decided about 5 days ago to join the rest of my birds. He thinks he's just one of them now and I even caught him defending his spot on the feeder a few times. He will also come down to the water bowls on the ground.

He lets me get pretty close to him but when I'm too close he'll turn his back to me. ha! When I go outside he starts squalking up a storm and talking to me. I've really enjoyed him and would love for him to stay but am sure he's probably someone's pet, although he's not banded and so far I've not found anyone looking for him.

I'm wondering if I should let him be or try to catch him just to ensure his safety. He loves flying, but I'd hate for him to be hawk food. AND where is he/she ever going to find a mate?
