DonnieBrook, it says on the nursery tag that the Genista is hardy to Zone 4. Thrives in heat though so I picked a spot that gets full sun. The woman who owns the nursery said the blooms last about a month but the foliage itself is pretty too. I had never seen one before, this plant is new to me.
Also, I have a hardy hibiscus here in Zone 7 and its just started showing signs of life as of two weeks ago. I would hold off before officially calling it dead. I planted pansies around the base of mine to fill in the gap it leaves in the spring.
