The chimney didn't look too bad to me, but they say it has to come down. Four tons of stone, a month to tear out and rebuild. It's an old timey one...no plywood, no inserts, not even cinder block...just stone fielded from the property. It heated the whole house and we used to cook over it during our frequent outages. Oh well, life moves on.
