They will bloom the first year. Mine get anywhere from 3-5 feet tall. Make sure you give them something to climb on they have leaf tip tendrils. Here is a photo you can see the tips of the leaves that are curled. This is what they use for support and are very sturdy and durable. You don't need anything fancy a simple stick tepee will be sufficient for them.

I place mine where they get full sun with late afternoon shade. Good thing about them being in containers you can move them around.
