Fortunately, it doesn't hang so low that you bump your head on it, unlike the last thing that was hanging there. Louise, your house looks wonderful. I love your fire place! We added on to the back of our house a family room/dining room that is 37 X 16. I wanted to add a fireplace to the room, but got nixed on that idea. Hubby said we'd never use it here in SE Texas and that it would always be a mess to have to worry about. I did win on the 6 X 6 side by side windows though, so I shouldn't complain. I've only had a fireplace in one of the houses we've ever lived in and we didn't live there through the winter to be able to use it. (sniff, sniff)

But hey, we have a chiminea... like that's supposed to provide the same ambiance as a fireplace!
