Because I read everywhere that they are annuals, I planted them in the straw bales I used for my tomatoes. After our first hard frost here and I wanted to remove the bales, I noticed that the basil plants were still going strong and had woody stems. So, I potted them up and put them on my front deck to see what would happen. So far, they are still in good shape and very happy.
