budbloom wrote: Hi Drapelady, it's nice to see someone from my area on DG. Welcome! I live on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain across from New Orleans. In fact, my daughter lives in Baton Rouge. One thing I wanted to say is, when you're selecting plants for your garden, keep your eyes open for heat- and humidity-tolerant plants, like lantana, for instance. Things grow like crazy in the deep south and that's what's so wonderful about it. My I-guess-it's-a-cottage garden is stuffed with plants, partly because I like the look and partly because growth gets out of hand, lol. So I get down and look under the canopy of the plants, and it is a canopy - there's nothing under there but stems, no weeds, nothing. Because of the humidity. Our summers are longer and hotter, which I guess you know if you live here. I'm new to growing roses and only have a few, so anything you find out about what roses to grow here, please share. I do know that About Face, a grandiflora I got last year from Chamblee, and Heritage, a David Austin rose, both bloomed all summer even though they were buried among other plants. Cheers, Peggy |
