There are 3 shelves formed in the underlaying sand, on opposing ends. 2 for potted water plants and one for the triple dolphin fountain statue. Not sure yet if I will bring the dragon over. I do know I have a small wishing well that needs a home. The large area in the middle is about 32 inches or more deep and will provide space for 2 of the water lilies I pulled out of the smaller pond. We used less than the recommended mil plastic so we double lined it after putting in underlayers of thick moving blankets to protect against punctures. Luckily we have a sand based ground and any of the roots previously here have long since been eradicated. We built a sand berm around all the edges the low side berm being taller to try to level out the water surface area. This ground is on a bit of incline/slant. The plastic will wrap up over the berm with more sand packed around the back side. Then we'll use lime rock, which is readily available on my work sites, to build up to camouflage the plastic edges and to form a pathway to the pond for gazing. I have already filled the pond and transferred some of the plants over before it got dark. I'll take more photos after work tomorrow when we fine tune things some more. BTW, it seems we got back to this just in time. The 2 clumps of fakahatchee grass on each side of the first pond have grown to 3 clumps and are over hanging the pond edges so heavily I have to push them aside to get to the pond edge. Additionally, the lilies and vines in the pond were really getting thick. It most definately was time to get moving on the bigger pond. |
