You can do it in a variety of ways, GH............on my corsage boxes I did today, I put a little perlite on the bottom and then used a potting mix on top of that...............the top is closed so I don't much think it makes much difference how one accomplishes the same thing....

I have some giant bowls which have nothing in the bottom but an inch of mix....perlite and av soil-less together............keep saran on the top and they are sooooooooooo big, I need to start all new ones....

Episcias also love the 4" pan pot things.....let me show you a picture of some I did today in these particular pots....very shallow pots.....
